Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced ambitious plans to invest a whopping $10 billion in building two state-of-the-art data center complexes in Mississippi, USA. This move comes as a response to the surging demand for cloud services, driven by the increasing adoption of new artificial intelligence technologies across various industries.
As the business world intensifies its focus on AI development, a significant portion of the anticipated surge in traffic is expected to be handled by the cloud infrastructure of industry giants such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, ranking as the top three global vendors.
The expansion initiative in Mississippi follows AWS’s recent declaration of a $15 billion investment in Japan. Simultaneously, Google has taken steps to establish a billion-dollar data center outside London.
Collaborating with the Madison County Economic Development Authority (MCEDA), AWS is set to establish multiple data center units across two industrial zones in Madison County. This strategic move is anticipated to create a minimum of 1,000 new job opportunities within the state, according to Amazon’s official blog statement.
Highlighting its commitment to the state, Amazon mentioned a cumulative investment of $2.3 billion in Mississippi since 2010. This substantial investment has been dedicated to building crucial infrastructure, including five fulfillment and sorting centers. As reported by Reuters on Friday, January 26th, the decision marks a significant stride in AWS’s expansion strategy.
